Fraud Prevention

While we do the best we can to prevent credit card fraud, (AVS, CVC Check, Zip check), there are many steps you can take with the Stripe dashboard to deter fraud even further.

Radar for Fraud Teams

Stripe’s Radar for Fraud Teams is a Stripe addon which provides powerful tools that can block fraudulent for only 2¢ per transaction. Radar allows your to configure custom block rules, 3DS rules, and allow rules along with blocklists and in-depth analytics on payment fraud.

Block rules

We recommend specific block rules which have been tried and tested to prevent the vast majority of credit card fraud. To configure a block rule, Radar for Fraud Teams is required. Navigate to your radar rules. Click on Add rule in the top right corner and select block rule.

List of block rules:

  • Block if CVC verification fails
  • Block if :risk_level: = ‘highest’ (Set to 75)

Authentication rules:

Authentication rules are by far the most powerful rules as they require the customer to prove they are the cardholder and shift fraud liability away from you and to the card company.

List of authentication rules:

  • Request 3DS if 3D Secure is recommended for card
  • Request 3DS if :risk_score: >= 25
  • Request 3DS if :amount_in_usd: > 500.00
  • Request 3DS if :is_anonymous_ip:

Review rules

We do not recommend using review rules since they require manual intervention in payments and can lead to a poor customer experience.

Lists

We maintain a list of email domains, emails and IP addresses which are known to be associated with fraudulent activity. This list can be accessed through the bckt dashboard and you are recommended to add it to your Stripe block list.
